As Christians, in this culture, it is absolutely crucial to think. Our world is centered around entertainment. Media in general, has desensitized us as people. We no longer take the time to think things through; we are no longer encouraged or challenged to question and test. My parents lovingly have taken the time to explain the importance of thinking. Without this practice, destruction is sure to come, unsuspectingly. There is a valid reason that we are likened to sheep in the Scriptures. When you really think about it, we act as one with the masses. If everyone else is doing, saying, or wearing it, why shouldn't I? I would definetely recommend a book called Amusing Ourselves To Death written by Neil Postman. It explains the plight we are in, in understandable terms. We as children of God, should be well practiced in thinking before we do or say something, and we should be consistent in holding our standards up to The Bible. I believe in knowing what you believe in why. My hope, in this vile culture, rests in the remnant of Christians who still believe in thinking, who have an insatiable hunger for learning ,who appreciates the hard work that goes into knowing where they stand theologically. As Tedd Koppel states" We communicate with everyone, yet say nothing". For America, it's all about the superficial, shallow and meaningless. Thinking is hard work, and therfore requires discipline, but it is immensely rewarding. It is essential for survival.
